Talking Paph. wardii x Paph. Hsinying Rubyweb 'Pink'

So, I just had my first paph ever bloom for me, and I'm a little excited! :-) I know it looks pretty much just like a lot of paphs, but I'm in love with it! Now, if I'm correct, this one won't bloom again until that little growth I have pictured matures, right? Anyway, enjoy! :-)

This is it before it bloomed....

Also, (shameless self bump), does anyone know if this has a name?

Well, even if it doesn't have a name, you have the parentage, which is absolutely essential to identifying any orchid. If the tag did not have a 'name', it probably hasn't won any AOS or other similar awards - those always get a 'clonal name'. However, if the hybridizer really loved this particular hybrid, they could have registered it with the Royal Horticultural Society Hybrid List - the official source, so to speak. You can go to their website, put in the parentage where they tell you to, and voila - if it's registered, you'll find out. I won't get into trying to explain "grex" names or "epithets", since I find them rather confusing and am NOT the person to be giving instructions on this - I'm just passing along info that has been graciously given to me. If you have OrchidWiz, then you're way ahead of the game and you can use that to find out anything you want about it.

By the way, IMHO, it's NOT an ordinary-looking paph - it's very beautiful, and a lovely example of what's usually referred to as a coloratum Maudiae-type paph - and yours even has a species parent - all the better. Take good care of this one - really good hybrid paphs aren't all that common. So far, looks like you're doing GREAT!

I haven't updated my laptop to the latest O-wiz yet, but as of 7.03, no, no name yet. Beautiful slipper orchid though, Zachary.

    cheers,

And the photos have a very pretty dark mystery about them, but for really delineating the bloom, you might consider a flash shot against a black background - just a thought. Or maybe, a bright off-camera, side-lit shot. This one seems worth taking the time to photograph in a few different ways.
