    Default Phragmipedum Cahaba Morning Mist

Another slipper nursery acquisition. This cross is very delicate and translucent white with a hint of pale green/yellow. It's the closest to a pure white phrag that I've run across, and I suspect it will become stronger and whiter as it matures. There is very little pink or red to be found - just at the tips of the petals and in the spots in and around the pouch, despite the schlimii and besseae the parents.

The actual cross is (Phrag. Hanne Popow x Phrag. Lutz Rollke 'Emily' AM/AOS).

We've had a particularly mild winter so far - 70 degrees under cloudy humid skies today, so the screen door was open for 80% humity and a fresh breeze for the 'chids. I'm starting to forget I'm a native, born-and-bred New Englander! I can deal with this kind of winter... And once mid-February hits, we're pretty much out of the woods for any real cold weather. Yay, yay, yay!

P.S. My slipper visits were fantastic - the second time we went, we were invited to stay over in the guesthouse. Wait until I post my Phrag kovachii x Eric Young - it's almost fully open and I'm delighted with it. Two of the paphs hybrids I bought have never been bloomed before, so I will have pictures of the very first ones! Very exciting.

Hey Connie - you will be getting your wish - if you still want it! Philip and I are driving down to Marco (slowly, with stops), leaving Feb. 12 and will definitely be going by Tampa. If you're up for a shopping trip, or anything else, around then, you got it. We can, of course, pm.

Hi, Zain - the hybridizer who made this didn't specify whether any of the parents were flavas. I don't know if I've ever seen a schlimii, fma. flavens, but I do know besseaes come in yellow. I'll have to ask him - he's sure to know. Thanks for the idea!
