    I missed the best time to take this pic - which was a couple of weeks ago, when it was at its best ; as time goes on, the flower continues to grow but not in all directions, so it loses its good shape ; still, here it is.
    A typical ( at its best) good white complex. They are never white of course, since they are essentially bred from P.niveum, which is typically pepper spotted - like this,and rarely snow white . Then it is bred with other things to increase the size - for niveum is only two inches natural spread, and we want them bigger - about 3 1/2 inches here . But the species or hybrids used to give size are not white, so something comes through... but the lovely neat pouch remains. But whatever one thinks about the hybrids, they are a hell of a lot easier to grow than niveum itself which , like all the species in that particular section of the genus , just can't wait to die ; whereas this plant is one of a batch I raised from a flask in the 70's , so quite long-lived.
