Watering without drainage has to be very careful, but I have had Paph purpuratum in a wdde glass vase similar to these jars for about a year with no problems. I would recommend deeper substrate with gravel at the bottom so you can see if there is any standing water. Lack of air movement doesn't seem to be a problem with a fairly open container like this and good air circulation in the area.

I have a book on terrariums that you might like. While the information is not the best where orchids are concerned it is visually a beautiful book.

This is pretty. From my perspective it is absolutely possible that this could be a permanent home for slippers. Not to forget, there are more than one ways by which one is able to achieve results. Growing orchids is a subjective issue and there is no right method. As far as this setting is concerned, I'd give it a thumbs up.
