Default Neat idea, but is it a good one?

I saw this photo in a blog this morning, and I thought it was just super pretty. I wonder if given the right potting media this would actually be a happy home for a paph or phrag. Any thoughts?

It looks to me like this IS a happy home for this paph.

Pretty terrarium! Yes, I do think that it would work, under the right conditions, but you'd have to watch out for root rot (lack of drainage), and since air movement is pretty important, I'm not sure an orchid would thrive under these conditions. To get the same effect, you could bloom the orchid outside the terrarium and, if the container is big enough, put together a tableau inside, with your orchid on center stage!

That's kind of what I was thinking they did here Maura. I think you'd need a pretty large jar for some of the paphs that would look cool in this display. Wonder if you could drill some drainage holes at the bottom of the jar and place it on a tray? Probably not something I'll ever actually do, but it's pretty!

hate to say, but that looks like something a florist put together with a flowering plant and sold off ASAP...too many stagnant factors involved in what i see there...BUT possible...with lots of tinkering!! pretty arrangement for sure!

I love the visual effect. Even the bottles are interesting. I've never seen bottles quite like that. I wonder where they found them. It seems like the kind of thing that would work for a while but eventually things might go bad. I think it would be fun to try though.

It looks very pretty, lice a slice from the nature itself. I will be making one, thanks for the idea. I always had bottle gardens but never thought of putting an orchid in.

Looks like a way to display a paph orchid for a short time. I find it very attractive, but in reality, I would never try growing a slipper that way.

    cheers,
