You're not alone...I have a ton of paphs, but I just bought my first phrag a couple of months ago, and it doesn't seem to like me very much. It came in bud, and just as the bud reached maturity and started to open, it blasted. Since then the plant has done a whole lot of nothing, besides lose a bottom leaf. I freely admit that Phrag culture mystifies me, but I'm giving it a try. Still, if my little schlimii goes to orchid heaven, I'll probably just stick to paphs. They seem easier somehow.

(I say this with the caveat that if I ever have the opportunity to get my hands on a Phrag Kovachii, I'm throwing all caution to the wind and buying the plant. I don't care if I have to build it a separate wing in my house)!

I suppose us non-phrag people will just have to be content looking at all the gorgeous pics you phrag growers put up here!!

Jenn- Just FYI - I have found P. schlimii to be the most delicate, frail, and overall uncooperative of all I've had. By the way, they grow them in the Cool Orchid House at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens - lots of sun, temp under 65 and cool mists blowing through there all the time. Not a particularly hospitable environment for humans...

Ugh...SERIOUSLY??? How did I miss this when I was debating which phrag to get? The ONE I happened to pick is the finickiest of the whole group? Aaargh!!

The funny thing is, I didn't even think the schlimii was the nicest-looking of all the phrags...but after much browsing online and puzzling over various phrag pics and descriptions, I bought it because one website listed it as "everyone's favorite phrag," and I got the overall impression that it was pretty popular and therefore relatively easy to grow and bloom.

Pbbbbttt!!!! Well, thanks for letting me know what I've gotten myself into at least. Perhaps I should move it to the "cool bright" area of the basement where I have the Cymbidiums?

Well, if you're growing standard cyms, they can take lower temps than p.schlimii - just keep an eye on the thermometer - but the light should be good - AND lots of humidity and air circulation. Why didn't you find yourself a nice besseae hybrid????

    Because I'm an idiot, obviously.

Do you have any to recommend? I could always sell the schlimii to someone who could give it a good home.

it is revived Maura and I think I'm to blame. almost exactly a year from the last post to my reply last week. I have this habit of rummaging through older threads.
