    Default Phragmipedium Fliquet 4N

Was really pleased when this won first place for phrags at orchid society today. Was elated when it was voted another blue for best orchid shown. I love phrags and this is one of five I have. The rest are nearing bloom size and should bloom sometime this year. This one is my first and oldest and is the second bloom under my care. I took the first pic two weeks ago as the first bud was opening. The second of the three buds started opening during the meeting this afternoon. The full tag reads and I am putting it as written on the tag:

Thank you for posting! My recently acquired phrag (my only phrag) is a Fliquet as well. Now my appetite for seeing it bloom is especially wetted. When I bought it the dealer said that it had a spike forming. In three weeks I have seen no evidence of changed in the spike, but I have three new plant growths...so I guess that is good? Anyway, big congrats on your awards, truly a gorgeous plant!

Hang in there. Both times this has spiked for me it took awhile for the spike to take off. Once it starts it seems to grow and bloom quickly. Can hardly wait to see pics of yours in bloom. I keep mine in a saucer with about a eight of an inch of bottled water and I feed it twice a month. WARNING! Once yours blooms you will become addicted to phrags as I have. LoL

Lol...I'm already addicted. I am having a hard time finding them around here. Went back to the orchid store, but the selection was limited. I settled for a new Paph Napa Valley. I want one of those lovely phrags with the insanely long petals. I too keep mine in a dish of bottled water. How much sun do you give your fliquet? It has been a bit cloudy here, I thought that might be slowing down the spike?
