    Default Paphiopedilum Hung Sheng Venus

This is a hybrid of paph. venustum album x charlesworthii album although I suspect that they were not actually pure /true albums as there is colour on this bloom. This is the first ever bloom so it is a little deformed but I like it anyway. I really wanted the one that was advertised on the website as it was a beautiful green and white instead but I will just have to make do with this one until it becomes available.

    Nice one!

To my knowledge the alba version of plants has all the genetic for color there, but they does not express them. An alba form is not an albino form. When you cross two alba forms you can never expect to get alba forms in all of the offsprings.

That is very confusing. I always thought that album meant devoid of colour? Many thanks for clearing that up Magnus.

I can agree with the confusion.

What I remember from the genetics is that an albino form have defect genes so they can not express color. An alba form of a plant have all the genes for color intact, but it is the expression of them that has been turned of for some reson. This "turned of" expression of genes is not necessary transfered to the offsprings.

I can be wrong on this, and hope someone can add information on the topic!

Well thanks for explaining it to me. I have learned something today I still love the paph even with a little colour to it. It is funny how when two albums -which have no obvious signs of colour, are hybridised they can then produce something with colour. The wonderful world of plants, I doubt we'll ever get to understand them completely.

Looks beautiful, nice growing. Sometimes the blooms that come out not as expected, turn out to be a pleasant surprise.
