Not my plants, not my greenhouse - which is stating the obvious - but thought you might like to see. Location in Thailand - grower hasd been line breeding for some years.
I wonder where they are sold ? CITES would be impossible !
Can't think there is that much demand in Thailand ( some, but not quite to this level ! ) Likely places are Western Europe, USA, Japan, Australia - all of which need CITES.
So, bribery and corruption somewhere ?
I expect I shall never know, but it does make me think.

I am guessing when you get a large order the paperwork doesn't cost as much. I used to know a gentleman that imported plants from all over and he got them by the thousands. He had several greenhouses here in Florida. I wish he was still in business, I so miss his beautiful flowers.

Geoff, I see, you have been in Chiang Mai.

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as the Washington Convention) is a multilateral treaty, drafted as a result of a resolution adopted in 1963 at a meeting of members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The convention was opened for signature in 1973, and CITES entered into force on 1 July 1975. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild, and it accords varying degrees of protection to more than 34,000 species of animals and plants. In order to ensure that the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) was not violated, the Secretariat of GATT was consulted during the drafting process.[1]

By the way, all species of Paphiopedilum are in Appendix 1 - species where CITES permits will not be granted....( Yes, a simplification, I know, but certainly not for quantities of this one )

I did buy a Paphiopedilum micranthum from an Italian vendor at the Orchid Show in Vaucelles, France the other day and was handed over a document that certificated the plant was sold conform to CITES regulations.
Does it mean this document does not have any value?
