I am to be quite honest, in awe...what a spectacular plant and perfect specimen! I love the corkscrew petals, evolution really does bemuse and fascinate me...I do not know anything about this particular species, so before I look anything up my speculation is that the long petals hang down and guide flying insects up to the main flower. The length would provide a greater chance of insect interception. It would be fascinating to look at this flower under U.V light.

My sincere congratulations on your specimen, it is very special. I hope it lives centuries or more (I believe orchids can be 100+..?)

    Wow! Showy!

Keep it away from other orchids. They will be intimidated and be ashamed to flower in its presence!
