Default Paph armeniacum & Paph micranthum…..I once had

More than 10 years ago, I knew nothing about CITES and bought these mature orchids at a unbeliveable low price. I was told that in their natural habitat they grew in abundance, forming an area of a half basketball court. Local farmers collected the plants and sold them like vegetalbles by weight, each costing around 15 cents(US). When they were shipped to Hong Kong, the selling price went up to US$ 2.5. per plant. In no time, the Hong Kong Authority took prompt action to stop the trade. Since then I can hardly see any of them in the market. Eventually I killed the plants after blooming. After all, the hot weather in Hong Kong cannot provide the right condition for them to grow.

Beautiful slippers. I am glad and thankful for CITES for stopping the collecting practice.
