Default Slipper Orchid in Bloom - I did it!

Thanks to help from your experts, I've gotten a bloom from this Paphiopedilum after 6 years of trying! I am not sure what the specific name of it is but I am loving it. The best piece of info I had from you is to get it out of the clay pot, which was retaining too many minerals.

Oh, what a cutie! I have my first ever Paph (since the one I killed in college that is) and it is about to bloom in my care, I'm SO excited! I got it in bloom last spring, so feel very good its going to bloom again so soon.

It's so much fun, congratulations on getting flowers!!

Very lovely. I think it is a Paph sukhakulii cross - most probably with a Maudiae type.

Carol--I certainly understand your excitement. Successful challenges like these are so rewarding! You are lucky to get two blooms in the same year. Ahh, there's a new goal for me...

Thank you, Cattan. I would have no idea how to begin identifying it.

    Very pretty. I love paphs!

I was thinking of moving one or two paphs into clay pots, but now, I think I will hold off.

Yours is pretty similar to mine, but I really don't know anything about Paphs and their id! Mine has those pretty mottled leaves and a fairly similar flower. I'm SO waiting - I have the Paph and three (now four, I just bought one from the baragain bin) Phals in spike. Three of those have buds just waiting to open. Gosh it takes FOREVER!! lol I have this group of beauties on my dining room table, where I speak with them every morning and lecture them at dinner. I'm sure it helps. I can't wait to be taking pictures to share when they bloom.

When I got my Paph, I was told the mottled leaf varieties do well in Phal conditions, which works for me, because my Phals generally thrive. It is in bark in a plastic pot and has grown a new fan since March when I got it and started a second fan and put up a spike, which looks like it will have two flowers on it! It's hard to wait. Maybe I'll get some pics for the "not in bloom" section.
