    Default Paph lowii

The last time this Paph lowii bloomed for me was 2 years ago. This Paphiopedilum is one of our local species and is found mostly in the highlands at around 5000 - 6000 feet elevation (1,500 - 2000 metres) and so is not really happy in the lowlands. However it is quite adaptable and will grow and bloom in the lowlands though not as vigorously or bloom as regularly as it would do under more intermediate conditions. In our Cameron Highlands where I got this plant it can be found growing as an epiphyte or a lithophyte. This multiflora paphio has just recovered from a bad attack of red spider mites thus blooming with only 2 flowers: normally 4 -5 flowers.

Thanks Eric - coming from you it means a lot to me. I've at last decided to shoot indoors using flash (in this case with 2 off-camera flash units) as the weather and especially the wind have not been very kind. The pictures were shot with a cheap Nikon lens on my new 'toy' the Nikon D5300. I'm very impressed with this cheap Nikon lens AF-S DX VR Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G lens (US$320 and that is half the price of my Tamron SP90 Macro lens). It is now my favourite all-purpose lens .

I've always loved this particular Paph but never tried growing it. I've never tried any species Paph actually, as I didn't do too well with hybrids. I can admire yours! Looks lovely!
