    Hi Julie,

You like those big purple spoons eh? Pretty amazing looking paph blooms, I have to say. This plant has been in bloom for a while. The first bud opened at least >2 weeks ago and the one of which picture is posted, opened like 8-9 days ago before the picture was taken. When it first opened, the petals were small and very droopy like the two droopy ears of a puppy then they quickly grew, extended straight and began to twist within a few days. The picture did not show the twisting very clearly but there is ~180 degree twisting of the petals when the picture was taken! The question now is how many times the petals actually twist with your lowii?

    Cheers. Hoa.

    Thanks, Jenn!

Hoa, my right petal has turned maybe another quarter turn than in my picture here, and the left one matches it.

    How many flowers on yours?

Hi Hoa, how many growths does your plant have? I got this NBS and this is its first blooming, but unlike most of my other paphs, there's no new growth started. Should I expect more than a year before another rebloom? (That is, while a new growth starts and matures.)

    Hi Julie,

Well, my plant is a 2 growth plant and it is blooming on the first mature growth. I would expect another 2 years before it blooms again! But I believe it will do much better after that. There are only 3 buds on this flowering cycle. Some of my paphs bloom every year but the big guys (roth and sander hybrids) would take 2 years. Oh well, you can not have everything.

    Cheers. Hoa.

    Thanks, Hoa!

That's what I figured, but I don't have experience with the big boys. (Am gaining it now...) I have a philippense hybrid that's taking a year off while little growths mature.

    Thanks, BD and Jason!

While this wasn't my first Paph. to bloom, it was the first I ever bought. I hadn't realized that it was so far from blooming size. I also gave it 'Paph. paranoia' lighting (that is, very little) and as a multi-floral, it actually craved light.

After a sloooooow growing year, I read the multi's loved light. I pushed the light and the plant took off. It's really neat to bloom a species after a 2-3 year wait. I've got several species across different genera that are all coming into spike or sheath for the first time and I'm thrilled!

    Default Flowering update!

Three of four buds have now opened, and I wanted to post an update. The first pic is the whole spike.

The second pic is the first flower, for comparison sake (back to the start of the thread. Note how the petals have lifted quite a bit from the droopy puppy ear position they had just after opening. The colors are pretty accurate.
