    Default You've Got Mail!

so... on Friday I get home and there was this card from the post office saying I got mail!

had to wait till Monday to go get my mail, and lo and behold, it wasn't your everyday ordinary mail at all!

I got given a shoebox, but still wasn't quite sure what it was and where it came from... so I quickly walked home and as I sat at my study desk with a knife in hand, I attacked the sticky tape around the box and as I opened it, I realised I had seen a similar packaging type before!

So I get even more excited (yes,m I am the excitable type) and as I slowly tear off the newspapers, I see this... well... I think my words will not be good enough...

She's so petite and so lovely!

A little bit worse for the travel but oh, I am in love!!!!

Well, it could only have come from one place, and I say thank you Diane for a most wonderful, wonderful gift!

oh, she's a Paphiopedilum hermannii !!!! (yes Julie, another species for the collection!)

    Whoa, Tim-O!

Your little beastie is even COOLER than a species! And rarer!

It is one of the very few natural hybrids. That is, a hybrid that occurs in nature - no Frankenstein stuff here! The little bees, or flies, or whatever made up this cross. And didn't even have to register the grex!

As I read it in Cribb's Paph bible, it's listed as: Paph. x herrmannii. The 'x' shows that's it's a natural hybrid. But it keeps the small cap to show off its coolness!

It's a Paph. barbigerum x hirsutissimum var. esquirolei. The latter is found throughout Southeast Asia, but barbigerum is found in a small portion of China and Northern Vietnam, so that must be where this guy hails from.

Awesome! Better than pics of you in your bloomers!
And don't worry, she has mail too - she just doesn't know it yet!

Very Nice!!! Nice present and bloom too!
What do I have to do to get one of these? (Just kidding, there is very little growing room left for me anyway!)

    Cheers. Hoa.
