    Wow!

That really is a beauty, Diane! I can understand your disappointment that it got a bit dinged up in transit. Still, what a lovely gift! You got to buy an orchid, and he got to keep one! And a natural hybrid at that.

I wonder how they can ID these natural hybrids with certainty. Wouldn't that take a genetic work up? And how does a natural hybrid really differ from a separate species? If you read the debates between the classifiers, it really makes you wonder.

It does look very nice, doesn't it?
Well, there is always hope for next year!
If we could get sophistcated, the best way to resolve the disputes regarding identification is through genetic testing. To do that, however one need to establish a genetic database and develop testing kits from these data.
    Cheers. Hoa.

I actually thought that they decided it wasn't a hybrid at all, because the plants they were saying were the parents when hybridised produced different looking progenies...

someone has proposed that the complex this plant is in which include helenae, barbigerum and insigne even, would have come from the same original species that has further developed into the different species due to localisation...

and frankly I see no esquirolei in this plant so I am preferring to think it is a new species

and I love it and I hope I can make it flower again soon... (i don't know if I can wait a year... aaaargh!!!)

    So we agree then that:

    1. Species identification is all voodoo,
    2. You have a gorgeous plant, and
    3. We all want Diane to come visit us now!
