    Smile Paph venustum

I bought this March 2015. It went into spike late summer, it has finally opened. 2 new growths are already growing. I think it may lift the dorsal a bit more. I'll add more pics once this happens. It is a slow grower. The bloom began opening on Friday, 3.5 days ago. And still has a bit more to go.

Thanks Yew! Praise from you means a lot to me!

I hope to buy a real camera, a DSLR, in January. Then I hope my images are the absolute sharpest possible!

The beautiful foliage certainly makes up for the long wait for the blossom. Great job!

A DSLR is a good choice if you are serious about taking better photos of your orchids. I'm into my third DSLR - a Nikon D5300, actually a 'downgrade' from my previous D200, but with its 24 megapixels and absence of a low pass filter the resolution is excellent, plus it is very low priced. The newer upgrade D5500 is even better and it is not much more expensive. However both are entry level models and you could always get the the enthusiast's D7200. Whatever camera you choose, a macro lens would be a good investment.

I learned photography from a Nazi Holocaust survivor, Greta Manheim, in the mid-1960's. I set up a darkroom at home in 1968 and did photography from then on. It was black and white in those days for home processing. Did photography for University of Maryland's daily newspaper, The Diamondback, and the yearbook my first 2 years in college. then I moved into film/video study. Worked the first few years of my career in video then as time passed, learned other non-photgraphic skills that serve me today in my job.
