    Smile Paph liemianum In Bloom

This is the second time this Paph liemianum has grown a spike for me and bloomed. Last time, it bloomed one new flower about every 6 weeks for 9 months. This is this spikes first bloom. The second bud is progressing. The next new growth has started as well.

The dorsal could lift up a bit higher but this one may not open much more. It was upstairs until today and we have been well above normal temperature for months. Only short bouts with cold. So I think the bud was just a bit stressed from the heat. The next flower will be perfection, I hope!
I am still waiting for my macro lens to arrive. Then I hope to have even closer images.

Nice shot with the macro lens, Harvey. I love liemianum, but wish the flower stem were stiffer to give a better presentation of the blooms.

Thanks for your help in understanding the operation of it. I was still thinking in the old school, analog days and not realizing I still control the aperture but from a different location. That's the D part of DSLR.

Last time it bloomed, my first experience with it in bloom, I found that the young spike was very soft. But actually did become fairly stiff the the time it had a second flower. This time, I began supporting the young spike early. Just with a stake and one of those cushioned wires bent to have a little hook for the spike to rest in. As the spike enlarged, I would move the wire up the stake to keep the buds as high up as possible.

Actually, very few (I've already trained myself to use the remote shutter release) as it was this morning before I left for work. But I did get out of bed today at 3:30 because I fell asleep at 8 pm.
