    Very nice bloom, Tim!

Omigod! I get all guilt ridden if I buy 3 plants! Having some trouble with self restraint there, Tim-O?

Let's see...I'll take this one, and this, and this one. And I've simply got to have this one. And hey, look at this one! Ok, I'll take it, and that one over there too, and...

Love it! I noticed you purchased a Paph Millmanii. I had been looking for that one for a looooong time that was affordable. I finally found one last year and I think mine will bloom either this year or next as it is doing well.

We'll have to compare Millmanii when we get blooms! BTW... I usually buy in bulk too as it saves on shipping or that is at least what I tell my husband lol.

    Default straw or rasp...

there is definitely a really awesome smell to Lynleigh, alas my olfactory is more like an old factory... so I can't distinguish between any of the berries but it smells very berry-ish! Love-in it!!!

Funny thing is, I only brought enough money to buy the vandas, the Hamana, the Silver Fleuret and the phil cross...

Note to self: "Do not bring credit card!"

As for the Millmanii (philippinense x callosum), I actually already have one, and I thought I was grabbing the Paph Recovery (philippinense x sukhakullii) but well, I'll just go back on Sunday when hopefully it is still there and in the bargain bin hehehe...

    Hi, I'm Tim and I'm an orchid-a-holic!

    Hiiiiii Tim!

Tell me about Orchidholics Anonymous! I think I'm the charter member!

I found this wonderful vendor with zillions of FCC awards for his rothschildianums. He had an NBS of recent top FCC crosses at a very reasonable price. But in talking with him, he had this small seedling that he thought was going to grow up to a phenomial cross. So I think, instant gratification: get the big one! But hey, a really fine plant isn't so bad either. So, I decided I'd get the big one and one of the little ones. Then he decides to pull those seedlings of the killer cross off the market. Drats!

So I need to console myself. I discover he had sanderianum seedlings that he's crossed himself at reasonable prices (so no risk of the PEOY mixup of a few years back). You just can't get these. Then I start drooling over a sanderianum of my very own! Plants were $3,000 apiece in the '80's. So I decide I'll spring for a seedling.

Then after some pleasant e-mails back and forth, he offers to let me have one of the killer roths seedlings after all... (ok, I'm up to 3 and counting by now!)

Well, the weather's been lousy and cold the last few weeks and he's been busy at shows. (I started trying to buy these plants on Feb. 20th.) So he can't ship right away. I said no problem, because nothing's going to bloom for a while anyway. Then, I was poking on his Website (note to self: no more poking on his Website!) and I saw a really nice philippense alba, who's sibs from the cross have already received two AM/AOS's. It was BS and affordable (sort of.) I'd been drooling over alba phils lately, after I saw one at a local vendor (unawarded) for $250! So when I saw his, I'm thinking, hey self, it's (it was at the time) your birthday, Mom and Dad sent a check, spend the check!

So he gets back from the Montreal show and I beg him to ship my plants quickly before I add anything to the order. That of course, was right after I added the alba phil to the order...

The order arrived today (all work comes to a grinding halt for the day, while I check the Fed Ex tracking progress and stare out the window). All were wonderfully healthy (gosh, seedlings are tiny!) (and Omigod, NBS Roths are HUGE!) ...except, the killer roths seedling wasn't there.

There was a PEOY seedling instead. I don't have one of those (although I could probably make my own in 5-10 years...)

Am waiting to hear if I need to send it back...but...well...I may have a PEOY just added to the collection...

Hi, I'm Julie and I'm gulping alcohol thinking it's a safer (and cheaper) addiction!

    Hi Julie and Timmy,

I am an Orchid-o-holic as well. First step toward recovery is admitting the addiction. Although I doubt very much if there is a cure.
Before going for a shopping spree with Diane at Santa Barbara Orchid Show, I promised to myself, "this is your budget, this is how much you are going to spend at this vendor, and this is how much you are going to spend at the other vendor, and this is how much you are going to spend at the show!!!". Well, like Julie said, just one more tiny tiny little plant, maybe not, a bigger one perhaps, just one more, oooh, they are going to give us a good deal, take it, take it since we are not going to be back here for many months!!! And before I knew it, everything went over!!!!
However, this time, I did have an improvement! I did not bring my checkbook with me to the show so I managed to avoid buying anything from a bunch of E-VEAL oversea vendors that I could almost never resist their plants! Did I regret not buying their plants after back at home? You betcha! Oh well, I probably will see them again in July, that is when I will go up there again for another orchid fair!

BTW, going shopping for orchids with Diane, somehow made me spending less money! Do you want to do this again sometime, dear Diane?
