    Default Paphiopedilum

Here's what is flowering in the slipper section.. hopefully more will follow.. hopefully... fingers crossed...

    Paphiopedilum spicerianum

a green leafed member of the Asian slippers, this species is also fairly easy to grow (although I didn't realise that till this year when I stopped watering the crown). It is a native of the higher elevations in assam region India and can deal with cooler temperatures with little adversity (I have had this plant down to 6 degrees celsius).

    cheers

    She's a beauty, Tim!

I'm such a sucker for slipper species!!! The hybrids just don't have the elegance the species carry.

that is just such a great species. Love the stripe down the dorsal. I wonder what it would look like if you crossed it with a druryi (sp?).

    Have to look that up..

Charming bloom!!! There is a amother cultivar call 'gigantum'. I wonder if the bloom from that is really really big?

Hmm so you have more to show, eh? No wonder you have lay low for a while just to stock up on the 'chids? Hehheheehe!
    Cheers. Hoa.

Thank you all for the kind words...

Welcome Molly Taco to our piece of cyberworld.. hope you find both enjoyment and enlightenment (the latter never from me but I'll try to provide a bit of the former)

Hoa, I also would be interested in seeing how huge the gigantum flowers are... the flower span on this baby is only 70mm from petal to petal.

Diane, there is a hybrid between the two species you mentioned, called Paph Buchanianum (named after none other than the person who registered it in 1890, a Mr Buchan). Can't help out on a piccie of that though...

    cheers

so I can't really take credit for this one, I figure owning a plant less than six months means that I wasn't the cause of the flowering... but it's alive right?

    Paphiopedilum Red Magic

This is a hybrid between a species and Paph Gloriosum (the latter hybrid mainly a mix of callosum and lawrenceae)... so who can guess the species parent?

    Hi Tim,
    Great bloom.
Hmm, is this a new trick that you put all of your paphs in a single thread??? Hehehehehe! It will become a show, you know that don't you?
    Cheers. Hoa.
