    Hi Julie!

We just about forgot about the darn thing. It has just been growing and growing and nothing for years! This is one of the older hybrids. I think (piper or jmoney will have to double-check me on this) the cross was made in or around 1900. It is a tough orchid to bloom. And once it blooms, usually it will not bloom again for a couple of years.

Thanks for all the nice comments! Now that she has bloomed, I wish we had more, but this is the only one we bought. It is a survivor though. It moved from our home in Virginia in the back of a u-haul, in the middle of August 1996, and lived in a gazebo wrapped with plastic over our first winter in Arkansas. She was one of the luck ones in a small pot. She got set close to the one oil heater we put in the center of the gazebo for heat. We lost a ton of orchids that were on the outer edges of the gazebo, but somehow this little on survived.

    Cheers!

    Okay...

Phrag. Albopurpureum was registered in 1877, so it truly is an ancient cross. It's between Phrag. schlimii x Phrag. Dominianum, Dominianum being caricinum x caudatum.

Sir Arthur is the only awarded grex, and won that distinction in 1974.

Thank you Julie! I knew the cross was an old one. 1877...cool! Thanks for the information!
