    Default Oops!

Guess I should have done the photo shoot I've been putting off, yesterday!

This dropped off this morning! It's a Phrag. besseae sib cross from that crazy California dude that Jason bought his Mother's Day present from.

I've been a long-petaled Phrag gal, but over the years, besseae has stolen my heart ('chids can do that!) I have to say, it is very pretty! I was surprised at how compact the plant is, and the flower barely lasted two weeks, but the vibrant orange more than makes up for its brevity!

Oh, it looks so fresh too. Sorry about it falling off so quick! Maybe it was just too big and heavy for the stem.

    Cheers!

How long do besseae typically bloom? It was a first bloom, and the plant isn't large (leafspan of...wow - 17"! It doesn't look that big.) Small by long-petaled comparisons.

you'll get 2-3 flowers on average on a first blooming...more on happy mature plants.

you can keep these flowers fresh for a while if you stick them in a clear plastic bag with a moist (not wet) paper towel, and seal the edge. longifolium hybrids might keep in perfect shape for a week; besseae for at least a few days (although the pouch is the first to turn to mush)

    What's the cross Julie?
    P. besseae is a dangerous one, in my experience. Some nice guy sends you one and then you turn around one day and you have about 20 of them.

I had flowers blooming sequentially with 6-7 flowers, for several months from some of these OZ crosses, but I also had a couple that only had one or two blooms.

    Hi Heather,

It's 'Pucker' x 'Colossal.' The plant's not that large, so maybe next time round there will be more flowers. Either way, it was pretty while it lasted!
