I did not get the chance to take daddy for judging. We have been suffering from a terrible heat wave here in LA area, much much hotter than usual. So by the weekend after the paph IQ game, I checked on the plant, the second flower that opened during the heat wave showed sign of damages - petals were dried, the pouch also showed sign of drying from the heat. So I immediately harvested the pollen and sent some of them to you. You know what would happen once you harvest the pollen. The flower wilted really fast. So better luck next time!
    Cheers. Hoa.

Bummer...he was stunning. Guess daddy is no mommy either, if you weren't able to pollinate him.

Next year he'll be even more beautiful, just beaming with pride on all the lil' juniors he's hopefully sired!

good luck with the crosses, Hoa!

for some reason you seem to be able to harvest pollen from the slippers without affecting flower longevity--try it! (most other orchids will wilt in short order after the pollen is removed).

    Jason,
Thanks for the pollen of your St. Within. I got them today. After I harvested the pollen from one of the flowers, that flower wilted and dropped after one week. I think that might be due to the excessive heat wave that we are suffering more than anything else.

    Julie,
Your postings always give me a chuckle or two. E-veal you!!! Hehhehee ... Well, we will see...

    Cheers. Hoa.

So did other flowers remain intact? Do you have one to try with the St. Swithin's pollen? I was hoping you'd be doing that in parallel.

The other flowers are OK, especially the last to open. I just got the pollen from Jason TODAY. So we will see ...

Oh - cool! Good luck! Fingers crossed for both our sex projects!

It's really something as you get older...you have to schedule your sex and mail stuff back and forth before you can try it!

Default My phil is smoking a cigarette!!!

When I received Hoa's Paul Parks pollen say that three times fast... the first of three blooms on my philippinense had been open for some time. I was afraid that it might not be fresh enough, so when the second bloom had been open for nearly a week, I pollinated it. Nothing happened.

Hoa had sent enough pollen for a second attempt, so I waited for the third bloom to open, which it did last week. This last Monday I pollinated it, but wasn't hopeful after the first failure. This noon I noticed the pouch was turning brown! I think it took! As you can see in the photos, the second flower is still looking great, so my phil is definitely prego!

Wahoo! Aaron, we got us a Paph pod coming!
