These progress pictures are really fun Tim. There is a certain stage of spike development where nothing much seems to happen, but with the pictures you can reassure yourself that it really is!

I wonder why I manage to kill my paphs, and the ones that arent dead seem to just want to sit there, lol....

    Default dreadful news....

well... i'm not even sure what to say...

looked at the flowers this morning and the laevigatum has been eaten... I think by a caterpillar. I should have been watching everyday... but I thought I was checking up on it too much and well.. anyways...

thankfully and fingers crossed the roebelinii is still going...

Tim-O, you aren't alone! If there's any comfort in wallowing company. At that magnificent private liquidation I attended a week and a half back, Maria, one of the owners, was fondling a Sophronitis. She said it was the most lovely yellow. A Soph. coccinea var. lobbii. She asked me if I had one in my collection. I said no, and she gave it to me as a gift. I was so touched!

Well, plants got mixed up when unloading the car on the way home, and my Soph gift ended up at a friend's house. She passed it to a non-orchid friend I'd be seeing the next day.

When I got there, I of course looked for it. The pot was empty! She'd awoken to find her 19-lb cat had eaten it. Leaves, roots, all! I was freaking inside, but my friend was so visibly upset I had to joke about it. But I hope the damned cat had a stomach ache!

Sorry the little beasties munched on your Phils! We know what they mean to you!

OH POP !!! My heart goes out to you - of all the blooms to be sabotaged! I couldn't be more upset for you, I am truly sorry.

Thank you Sarah, I figure part of sharing this with you all is to show that we all experience this time... when we expect to finally see blooms from our 'precious' only to have that experience taken away... still, there is next year

Julie, so sorry to hear about the Soph coccinea... I think you may remember me talking about my pups eating my Dend speciosum which I'm sure by that stage was blooming size...and now I have to wait another 7 years for the little bulb they left behind!

Once again you've shown what a great friend you are by thinking of how upset your friend was instead of your own. *hugs*

Oh Tim, so sorry. Man, that sucks big time. I think it is time to spray for caterpillars! Darn cute little bugs!

    Cheers!

    Default Finally! sort of...

here's the latest update... with two flowers... and one bud to go...

Paph philippinense var roebbelinii 'Grace' x 'Candor Red Streamers'

not altogether sure what happened to cause the split synsepal of the first flower.. maybe low humidity... but hopefully it's not genetic!

    cheers
    P.O.P.
