    Default Paph philippinense

so at the risk of letting people watch my pretty little babies go from bud to blast... here is a progress thread so we can figure out how long from seeing a sheath to the actual open flowers (fingers crossed)

    1. Paph philippinense (syn. laevigatum) - first the full plant with a 2L apple/cranberry juice bottle for size comparison... by the way, I bought this plant in January 2005 with three growths... now there is about 10!!! First time blooming!

and now the sheath. First noticed about four days ago...

    2. Paph philippinense var roebelenii 'Grace' x 'Candor Red Streamers' - not to be outdone my very first philippinense bought yonks ago (maybe 5/6 years as a tiny seedling) and seems to grow slower...

and the sheath... which was noticed about four days ago as well...

Now, does anyone have any idea of how long it should take for these things to get to the whole open flower thang???

    cheers
    tim

Hey, hey, hey, Tim-O! What a nifty surprise - twice over! I'm guessing two months if the spikes are happy. That's just a rough guess, though.

Wow. I would go with McJulie on this one. Two to two and a half months. Great idea!

    Cheers!

Default slower than a turtle on sleeping pills...

well a week on and not much has happened... but I figure I might still post pics anyways

    1. Paph philippinense (syn. laevigatum)

    and..

    2. Paph philippinense var roebelenii 'Grace' x 'Candor Red Streamers'

so they definitely won't be open for the show next weekend

but at least they haven't blasted...

interesting how the 'laevigatum' is a lot lighter in the colour of the 'bud'.

    cheers

Ah, they're only slow because you're watching them. If you were out of town they would have bloomed by now - and be fading by the time you got home!

well, another week and another set of pictures to show how agonizing our wait for orchids to flower!

    1. Paphiopedilum philippinense (syn. laevigatum)

    2. Paph philippinense var roebelenii 'Grace' x 'Candor Red Streamers'

actually looking at the pics... there does seem to be a progression... but it doesn't feel like it when I look at it every hour
