    I just looked this guy up, and the cross has been registered. His name is Paph. Macabre Pie.

    You can try bracing the spike by winding very thin wire (bonsai wire) gently around the spike as it grows. Not like a corset, wind it in an upward spiral just to give some support. It might help.
