Well, I sort of feel like this one was a little bit of luck. I have two of the same cross, same age etc and only one spiked, so I don't know what I did right with one and wrong with the other--they really get equal treatment.

The grow right up against a south facing window that I only shade in seasons when the angle of hte sunlight makes it super hot--otherwise, I just let them soak in all the sun. The roof block the direct sun during the late spring and early summer (now), so there is no shade curtain. This one is growing in medium/large coconut husk and a plastic pot. THe other unbloomed one is in a smaller coconut husk mix--I don't know if that mattered or not. I use Dyna-Grow bloom starting in about Dec at 1/2 tsp per gallon, the rest of the year I use Dyna-Grow regular balanced fertilizer. I tend to actually get time to water about once a week or so. I schlep them all to the sink and water throughly and then I water with the fertilizer mix.

Murgdan and Becky -- I hope that helps.

Excellent colour on it too! I like it a lot

I would think it would need to be watered more than once a week though. It does vary from plant to plant though. My hybrid, which I expect similar blooms, had to be set in water even though it is half caudatum-type and it is doing better wet. I was actually scared to set it in water.

Gorgeous Phrag, I love it! I think those pink, long-petaled Phrags are just beautiful.

I am tempted to buy the Phrag. Ashley Wilkes although it is rather pricey for me. $65.00 and I am a beginner. Is there anyone from Florida who has this orchid? It gets very hot here in the summers. Over 95 degree at times althought I do keep a 24 hour fan set up for my orchids. Do you think it will do well?

Good growing, Sadie! Thanks for sharing your growing tips. It sounds like you give them lots of light; I will try upping the light.

ckperin -- when you get to your five post minimum and have private message capability--PM me. I have an idea for where you could get one for less than $65. For me, $65 for a plant I'm not sure I can grow is a bit steep. (I've been known to spend that much on one I know I can grow though . . . ).

Anyway--I have an idea for you.
