These blooms are sensational!! I wish I had the space for a cymbidium plant like this...I know they're pretty large, aren't they? I remember my Mother received one as a gift one year...the leaves were almost 3ft long!! Thank goodness she had the space for it...but I don't think I do!!

Gorgeous cymbidiums, Diane! I don't think I could pick a favourite although the one from your mother must be really special.

My biggest one, the pink, which has 4 spikes, is in a 10 gallon container, and the leaves are 3+ feet long. The mini is in a gallon container, and it's leaves are about 18".

    Wowee that's a sizeable plant.

We went walking on the sussex coast on Saturday (we did the Seven Sisters walk - I don't recommend flip flops) which just happens to also be near a certain Orchid nursery that specialises in Cymbidiums.

So after we had recovered from 10 miles of serious ups and downs we popped into the nursery on the way home. Nearly came back with some cymbidiums too, although the idea of having them in 10 gallon pot makes me think that my flat is not nearly big enough..... maybe next time though!

I do envy you yours Diane

That's why I don't have any cymbidiums yet although I pre-ordered a sinense, I think those are little smaller and are more warmth tolerant.

The asian specie cymbidiums are smaller, and often have very fragrant blooms. I have 4, already finished blooming. they are in regular 6" pots.

I think it was Hoa who suggested a bunch of Chinese Cymbidiums when I asked about nice fragrant orchids so I thought I'd start with sinense as it sounded great. Those big showy hybrids look beautiful though...
