How wonderful to see orchids growing freely like that without having to travel to far distant lands to catch sight of them. Thanks for sharing.

Yup, about a 10 minute drive, though I had some emergency bass fishing I had to do this evening (wind down from the office), and what should I spy, but about a dozen more. It seems a little early this year, but maybe with the warmer temps recently and the abundance of rain that encouraged them to be a bit earlier. We will have them for probably a couple more weeks before the main flush of blooming is done. I thought I had spotted some Isotria in the same area (further down the trail), but it turned out to be its doppleganger (well, in foliage at least) Indian Cucumber Root...blooms nowhere near as cool as Isotria, but they are rather unique looking. Soon...hopefully, the Goodyera will be out and about, but I most likely missed the Pogonia and Calypso bloom.

That is fantastic, I would love to just go out and stumble across some myself - thanks for sharing that little surprise with us.
