Hello everyone, must say... after much heartbreak and self defeat I am proud to show off my new first flowered baby. I thought that the flower sheath had rotted during our late winter here in Melbourne and I posted a "help" post from other growers to see if indeed I had rot in the sheaths, but to my very pleasant surprise this little gem just burst into bloom 2 weeks ago and is now on it's way to be judged by a senior judging panel. Sigh of relief from this side of the world and I welcome your comments and individual critique on this plant. It is it's first flowering ever and hope it is a winner...we'll see how we go...
Hope you like

Good luck on the judging.
It is lovely! Well bloomed!
Wow, that is beautiful! I love the hot pink and polkadots...it's very exotic. I wish I could have one, but stores don't sell paphs
Oh, Your baby is so beautiful!!! Does she have a name???
Thank you for all your kind words, feel great that at last I managed to get this species to flower!!! I actually collect multi flowered paphs and after I bought 20 different seedlings it is just great after 2-3 years of nurturing to have some of these flower, hence why I wanted to share my pics. You can also see another of mine as my avatar, that was also another that took a few years to flower and am waiting again this year to watch it flower once more. As far as it having a name...it is just paphiopedilum lowii around here but I may change that to "lucky you flowered or else!!" he he he...
Again, thank you and I will post other pics of the orchids that are flowering in the glasshouse as they come up. It is spring here and has been very hot (we had 2 days of 37C)! so things are on the fast track
Beautiful flowers! It has quite dark colouration and lots of it, so that's always a big plus... talking of big, those big flat forward paddles at the end of the petals is also a good characteristic! Good luck with the judging!
Very nice lowii there !!!
BTW, Kelly, you can buy the lowii through mail-order. This plant should do quite well in a home environment!
Thanks guys, that means a lot. And by the way...it got assessed fairly and an HCC was granted, quite an honour. Very happy with it and hopefully it will produce better flowers next year.
An HCC!! Well Done!
