Talking Multifloral Paph?

Happy almost-summer! Though, in most places you wouldn't know it since it's only barely warming up.

A couple weeks ago my Paph Delaina decided to spike for me! I was so excited because its the first paph I've gotten to rebloom for me so far. But as it started to grow, I noticed something I didn't know was possible : It has 3 buds on 1 spike?! Too cool! When I bought it last fall, it was 1 bloom, 1 spike and I thought this was normal.

But, is this normal for a paph? Or a Delaina? I can post pictures later. The first bud is just starting to crack open today.

I have a Paph Pinocchio 'Otonio' x Paph Wellesleyanum 'Raisinette' that (currently) has one bloom and two developing buds. Some hybrid paphs are multiflorals; your Dellaina seems to be one, according to a quick search.

Paphs are a wild bunch:
1. some paphs are one flower per spike per growth
2. one flower at a time but in succession (one wilts while the other opens right after)
3. multiple flowers per spike at the same time

They are so much fun. Enjoy your multi!!! Congrats on reblooming it

I'm not sure if there are any that rebloom from the same leaf fan, but I'm sure others here know?

Talking Thanks!!

Too cool! Thanks for the info. This is the first paph I've seen do more than a one per spike blooming. I knew they could make more than one spike on the same plant, but that's not what this did.

I think it was happy I up-potted a couple months ago. Lots of bright white-furry roots going everywhere and its making 2 new growths off the newest growth (one on either corner). This thing is HARDY!

Does anyone know?

My wife and I bought our first Paph. a few months back. For some reason I never raising them in the past. We bought ours w/ a budding spike (2 buds). The first slowly went out as the second one slowly came in. It has one new growth. I was wondering if it would bloom again from the original growth or not.

Paphs only bloom from the new growth. The original growth slowly fades away in time. The new growths are where your spikes will appear.

Cheers,
BD

dellaina is a sequential multifloral paph hybrid; gets that trait from the chamberlainianum parent. one at a time up to 3-5 total, or something like that.

Red face Torment!

Its opening sooooo slooooooowwww!!! It started cracking on Friday and is only this far! ... it reminds me of something laying an egg...

So I did the bad thing and went to my usual 'chid dealer and picked up 2 more paphs ... half-price... going out of business sale..... But... half price orchids..........

Ooh! Thanks for the info, Jason. When I bought it the spike was a one for one so maybe I'm doing better than the person who had it before me?
