Default Phrag Mem Garren Weaver (pearcei x wallisii)

Hi, okay like several others here on the forum I decided to try growing and hopefully blooming a Phragmipedium. I bought the above as a healthy young double growth plant. I know they need more light than paphs and moister growing condition. I am confused about the water. Should it really be sitting in a container of water all the time? Does it need warmer or cooler growing conditions? Answers to the above questions will be much appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Bill, you sure picked a nice one to start with! You may have noticed that my avatar is Phrag. pearcei and just happens to be in bloom now. Anyway, here is a good link to getting started cultivating Phrags-

Thanks mitch the info is a lot of help. Reallt appreciate your help. I really love these guys but have never tried one until now. Usually the ones I like are so expensive for blooming size plants and smaller ones are hard to find. I lucked out and won this one on internet auction from a reputable grower. I got it with shipping for under $30.00. As i said there are two really nice healthy growths. Thanks again.

I rcently bought a two-growth phrag Green Hornet, which is a miniature pearcei cross (pearcei x longilfolium). They did tell me to keep it in a saucer of water, and it seems quite happy that way.

Mitch, thanks for posting the link.

I keep my mem Dick Clements in about a 1/2 inch of water. I read, though, that they like pure water. So, I'm watering with spring water.
