    Default Paphiopedilum richardianum

I have waited for 4 years for this one to bloom!!! The plant has 3 mature growths and a couple of new leads. I grow this one like my roths and sanderianum under LED light.

Interesting. Not in my collection as far as I know ( never flowered if it is ! ) So I looked it up in Cribb. His pictures are rather different, but maybe your flower is new, and not fully developed ? He says that the distinguishing feature from P.lowii is the prominent deep Vee notch in the upper edge of the pouch, plus the more extremely dependant petals. I can't see the Vee very clearly in your pic , and I would not have guessed a lowii relative from the pouch which looks the wrong shape. Will be interested to see another pic when the flower is mature ( if my guess is correct).

    Thanks for all the replies.
I am curious of what Geoff had to say about the flower. I will take another picture of the flower, and one of the whole plant later in the day. I got this plant 4 years ago ----vendor information removed - see faqs on posting ----. The plant is only 7 inches tall, 8 inches across, and the spike is about 2 feet tall.

You may like to see the Cribb ( Paphiopedilum, Kew Monograph, 2nd Edition) pages - which I have photographed - my new scanner is not yet understood !
One pic shows P.richardianum on the left page - the right page is another variety/sub-species, etc which is irrelevant;and the other pic shows habitat on the left page - the P.lowii is in the middle of the pic growing epiphytically , whereas the right hand page is (IMHO) a rather poor picture of P.lowii itself.
