This useful article explains recent changes in the Genus Paphiopedilum, as well as lists the species that make up the genus, and provides photos of each one.

A Revised Checklist of The Genus Paphiopedilum by Harold Koopowitz (Orchid Digest Oct.-Nov.-Dec., 2000)

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

After taking a quick look through the pictures I am wondering why anyone would want anything other than species!!!! They are too beautiful in and of themselves.

I guess my only concern is the fact I see copyright labels everywhere in it. Did you notice that when copying it?

The article is fully accredited to the Orchid Digest and Harold Koopowitz. I made a point to include all those page borders just for that reason. I'm not suggesting either the photos or content have anything to do with me or this forum. No one is making any money or losing any money because it's posted here, it's purely for educational purposes.

Bruce and I discussed it before I posted it and he's behind it. If the owners of the copyright complained, the thread would be removed immediately.

I think we're ok. But the question was considered, since it is important.

Great information and beautiful pictures. Especially interesting to me as I have an assortment of 10 budding paphs on their way. Thanks Julie!

Copyright is one of those hugely misunderstood legal issues, even amongst the experts, I believe. We have been discussing this very subject on a Bonsai forum I frequent. The concensus there is that EVERYTHING is copyrighted, even this message I am typing. The moderators have decided to take the hyper-conservative (or is that liberal?) bent and do not want anything that is even remotely suggestive of being copyrighted put in a message. Some people with training and background (no copyright lawyers though) have chimed in and basically supported that feeling. I think it is the liability law suit phenomenon that has many people scared. I think the current mood is it is OK to do certain things until someone can figure out a way to sue and make money off of it!!!!!!
