    Wink A new Orchid =)

Hi everybody! I have so missed Orchid Talk... My computer decided to go on a vacation... I just now got a friend to coax it back into working.=) I just wanted to thank everyone for your replies and help while I was off line. Also today I was given a new Orchid! She is a different type, but looks like a smaller, yet more delicate moth orchid... and is white! I will take photo's tomorrow and catch up. It is good to be back...

Red face Phal or... aka Orchid Karma!

Hello Everybody... I have missed you. The computer system has been down at The Zen Center, where I live for a few weeks now. Since we are all "hooked up" together it has been very frustrating for all. More lessons in Impermanence.... Any way seems I will forever be on this thread... because, I have taken on the responsibility and challenge of trying to save more sick, (white) Moth Orchids! I now have {{{4}}} plants! The florist down the street has no pity, or care for their Orchids when the blooms are gone. They just can not get the $$$ for them and they become neglected, discounted or trashed! I go in there to admire the blooms, and drool (very expensive) When I saw two sick Phals... well I could not help myself. Remember the saying, "be careful what you ask for, you might just get it"?? Sad thing is I am still new at this and its a fine line between... helping them or, torturing them slowly to death! I have to stay out of that store, I am going broke, its like having orphaned children! I love them, you know I do... just wanted to say I am happy to be back, with all of you at 'Orchid Talk' again.

I thought it had been a while since you were here. Glad you are hooked back up. And about your new additions: I think it is great! Just think about all the blooms you will be rewarded with for being so loving and patient.

    cheers,
    BD

    Smile The Moon babies!

Thank you... missed you too! Today I woke up with a horrible sore throat... so I stayed in with my Orchids and ate sorbet! It was lovely... I enjoy them so much, I hope they will be alright. Yesterday I put the sick "moon babies" in new clay pots. I didn't have any of the bark mix... so I had to re use the spag (I dried it out first) until I can get some bark. One of the Orchids had a leaf that was yellow and sick... I cut it off and her lovely stem of flowers. Then when I got her out of the pot...There was some rot in the roots, so I had to do some amputation I then bathed the roots and let them dry in a dark cool corner, with the fan on low. I played Mozart for them... the other one didn't seem so bad. He just had some dried up roots, that were all intertwined. So I removed them, didn't cut the flower stem off, and put him in a new sterilized clay pot. The pots are a bit bigger than the plastic ones they were in. Does the root ball have to be "crammed" in with the pot mix? Seems very suffocating. They seem a bit happier, I guess time will tell... I would never have been able to get this far... with out you! Please tell me if I did ok...

    Question Sphag... very bad =(

Sphag... forgot the {h}! Thank you, yes of course. Perhaps you can help me? As I was looking around the site last night, I noticed several people seem to like "S&H" filler/medium? I will have to send away for the bark mix... Before I do this I am very curious to know what else is available, and what would be best for me and my Orchids. I do not believe I will be adopting any more plants (for a while) unless the devil comes to the Zen Center! I have the four right now and that seems plenty. I try to edjucate myself from the great knowledge everyone has been sharing, growing their own Orchids... but there is so much to look at, and read on this site, I get a bit overwhelmed.
