I saved a favorite by putting it in sphag and then putting a gallon size plastic bag over it, leaving it open at the bottom. I watered it when the sphag was dry a couple of inches down. Moisture would collect on the inside of the bag so misting wasn't necessary. I placed it near the fridge where it was warm and kept it there for a few weeks. It has developed new leaves and is looking good.

I am afraid it's still dying. The lowest of the two aerial roots has started to get black from the stem and is likely to be gone in a day or two. After that the only root left is the single aerial root which is just under the leaves and looks fine for now.
I there anything else I can try before it's really too late? I haven't seen any new roots at all since July 7 (the only time I checked though was July 12).

I assume I have to wait for the blackening to stop and after that for the roots to grow. When can I except anything like this?

    Sincerely,

you *could* cut the rotting piece, and soak in fungicide/disinfectant and do the spagh-bag thing. Maybe it will heal the rotting.

in the meantime get a new plant.

Right now I have a plastic bag on a stake dangling/hovering over the plant; is there a better way to create a tent? I am worried it doesn't get enough air circulation?

I keep it about 4 metres from the windows (covered with blinds).

    Hi

Just chiming in with my little piece, I currently have a phal in the process of recovering from severe root rot, so far it has taken nearly 2 months to grow some new roots, in the meantime the leaves went very thin and wrinkly but it is now growing a new leaf, so bear in mind that these things just take time.

It is possible that the phal might not survive if it has stem rot, but for now keep an eye on it, I can't really add any more to what has been said above as you have been given very good advice.

    Default Going camping (aka sphag-n-bag)

    Hi all,

Definately not how you want to see your precious plants, anyway here's the camping trip my phal has undertaken. I mist the side of the bag when I notice the drops are disappearing.

    Hi all,

I think it's a little to late to help this little guy. The last aerial root is starting to get black too now and the 2 remaining leaves are yellowing. There is not much left from the stem that's still healthy.... Any last things I can try?
