I wasn't having great results with my phals when I kept them near a big southern window, although they bloomed and grew nicely. My desktop was getting over crowded, plus my mini phals were constantly dryer than they prefered. So I moved most of my phals in library shelves where they get warm cfl light for 10 hours during the night. There isn't a lot of natural light reaching them in their new growing space, but they seem very very happy now that they've acclimatised.
My seedlings benefit the most, but now I can see major differences in adult plants as well.
