Default My first phal, which didn't win a thing last weekend:(

Ok, this is the noid phal that is responsible for starting my addiction. I've only been growing for a little over a year, and this phal was originally my mothers. Once I decided that I wanted to grow orchids, she kind of gave it to me. It was in bloom at the time, but only had two spikes with maybe one branch per spike. It also has what seems to be a basal keiki, but could just be a second plant in the same pot.

Well, after last years flowers dropped, I just took care of it the best I could. Then, this winter it threw up three spikes, one from the basal keiki that didn't flower last year. And the two spikes coming from the main plant each have three branches on them. I counted buds, and altogether, there are 59.

I took this plant to the SWROGA show, and put it in my society's display. Now, since it's a noid, I knew it wasn't eligible for AOS judging, but I assumed I would win a ribbon at least, if for no other reason, just based on the sheer number of flowers. I've never seen such a floriferous phal.

Well, much to my dismay, I didn't win a thing at the show, and the 1st and second place phal's in its class were nowhere near as showy. They may have had slightly larger or flatter flowers, but still, I would have been happy with white. Well, anyway, it's no big deal, cause IP still get to show it off to all of you. Enjoy!

Tis a beaut, Geoffrey! (But yes as you found out, NOIDs are not generally eligible for any awards.)

It's magnificent!! It deserved some kind of award that's for sure! Would you share your culture with us? I'm lucky if my phals have three blooms!!
