    Talking My New Phals... :D

After the international flower show I kept on calling the local orchid supplier for new stuff... Every week I asked and they said "not now!... Please wait a few more days..." until this week I finally had a "Oh yes, please come and visit... we have a whole lot of new phals"... So I grabbed the cash and dashed outside...
There were lots of new phals there... Pure whites, yellows, purples and even one BIG phal with around 9 leaves and pink flowers 5 inches across... (It looked blotchy and mosaic-y so I ignored it...) but these two caught my eye and I bought them... The yellow one was the most attractive and unusual among the yellows because the others were almost plain yellow but this one has those nice red spots and pink center... it has leathery/thick petals and its very durable... (its very slightly fragrant... if you call Clivias fragrant, this one is too... I stick my nose to it every time to recognize the scent!... )... it has another flower stalk growing... The other one is very large and the flower stem is almost as thick as a pencil... the vein like patterns are very bold and I love it!... (Gotto remove the striped/veined phal hybrid from my wishlist and change it to something else!!!)...
All plants are in perfect condition with lots of healthy/firm roots...
Right after bringing the plant home I pollinated them... I Crossed the two and even "Stole" one pollinia from the huge pink one there!... I'm going to try some of my refrigerated "Pink Polka" pollen soon... The pollinated flowers shriveled up in a blink of an eye... My first phal has grown a new leaf and the seedpod is still developing... its been around 4 months now and I cant wait to grow them on agar...
By the way I have "NO ID"ea what these hybrids are called... Any help will be appreciated...
    Thanks for taking time...

    Hi mohi!
    Greetings from Argentina!

    Your phals are lovely...
and one of them is just exactly like mine. The second picture, of the striped one... But my flowers are really tiny. Too bad I cannot help with the name of the hybrid. I'm just beginning with this learning...

    Take care!

I would check with the vendor. If they do not know the names it'll be tough. With phals and dens, they make thousands of the same plant and then move on to the next. If it comes with no name, it is often easier to just make one up for it.
With or without names they are both very pretty!

So true. First check with the vendor, then is s/he cannot tell you, you will have to just give it your best guess. I really think both are beautiful. Should make an interesting bloom someday!

yellow one seems Phal. Brother Sara Gold.
    sara gold has good fragrance.
i have a Phal. Brother Sara Gold 'Peach'.
i think your one is not a 'peach' but one of Sara Gold clanes.
perhaps yours is Brother Sara Gold 'Goki'.

stripe one seems the hybrid of Phal. Fayette x Phal. Mass Stripe.

    cheers!

    Hi again...
Do you think your second phal is the same as mine?

We never know with hybrids... they're so many of them of different plants...
I'm sure I've seen mine on the Internet under 3 different names...

Paulitamonna Your orchid is very nice looking but the flowers are definately smaller than mine... I have one phall with simillar looks but without those nice stripes...
Your phal has much denser stripes than my second plant plus the lip on your flower is plain red...
I agree with the hybrid-naming-syndrome... You can find one plant with several names... this is common in other plants too... If anyone out there plant amaryllis bulbs for xmass?...

Mohsen, the form on the both of the plants' flower is very very good. Note how the two bottom sepals are clearly seen below the two petals. The flower also is quite flat. I believe that you have the dual triangular shape that judges look for. Phals with the tucked up bottom sepals typically sell for less at the orchid shows around here. Finding the true names will be well worth the effort if you show. Congratulations on knowing a very good supplier. Joe

Thanks JoeW... This supplier is the only one I know in Iran...
Unfortunately this is the plant I've made the 5 crosses with and I'm a little bit concerned about its health while its ripening 5 seedpods...
I dont grow for show right now 'cause orchids are'nt well-known in Iran... I grow Just for the fun and we all know that special feeling right?!...
