    Dear Friends,

Just received this beautiful phal from a friend.
Phal Deventeriana ( phal amabilis x phal amboinensis)

It is very beautiful and so light. I like the tiny dots towards the center of the blooms. Thanks for sharing it.

    Cheers,

Very nice! Interesting how it took the amabilis-like shape, but the coloring from amboinensis.

    She's a beauty, Erly!

The coloring for Phal Deventeriana is highly variable and, I suspect, due largely to which parent carried the pod. Some are mostly white and some are mostly yellow. I'm guessing amaboinensis was the momma in your case.

I checked four trusted sources (Orchidwiz, Jay Pfahl, Phals.net, and Eric Christenson's Phalaenopsis: A Monograph (the Phal bible) and I don't see anywhere that this could be a natural hybrid. (That is, the cross occurs in nature without any human help.)

If it were a natural hybrid, it would be written as Phal xdeventeriana, possibly with (amabilis x amboinensis) added. The "x" and the lower cap on the name of the cross tell you it's a primary hybrid that occured in nature giving it a pseudo-species status.

I'm not saying it's not a natural hybrid, but I'm suspicious if none of the experts believe it to be so. Tell us more about where it came from.
