Default Phal. Memoria Karen Sale ‘Jean’ peloric

I had to bring this home today. This is the best peloric that I have ever seen in person. Notice that three petals (instead of the usual one) have each managed to fashion themselves into a labellum. All three have the full appearance of the structure of the normal labellum. The triangular shape of the unopened buds tells us that the unopened blossoms will also be peloric. Phalaenopsis Memoria Karen Sale ‘Jean’ peloric

Oh, that is so cool! I, too, would have trouble passing it up. Why do I feel this sudden urge to haunt some big box stores to look at weird & wonderful Phals????

    Cheers,
    Rob

Cool! some of these peloric ones are very cool....saw a post of one that was being sold at the Ft Lauderdale Show this year that had a modified petal instead of a lip. It was very interesting

After an early appointment, I had stopped at a greenhouse on the way to the office. There were thousands of phalaenopsis' in blossom. A senior grower was moving through the aisles, selecting plants to move up to the prime viewing/sales area. I commented on a group of phal mericlone that looked like fifty identical twins. He talked about the differences seed grown from the same pod exhibit compared to the cloned. And, he pointed out a peloric (odd single petal) in the midst of the mericlones. Only one blossom on the inflorescence was wierd. A little while later, he came to me with several other Phal. examples that he'd searched out to show me. It was like a small seminar. Ron-NY, I think you'd like to see his collection. He says he grows things at home that he doesn't see all day long every day.
