    Default Phal Little Emperor II

Some of you have seen my recent post picturing my Little Emperor 'peloric'. Last summer I removed a keiki growing from an old flower spike from the 'mother' plant. This is the flower growing from the keiki... and as you can see it is very normal looking.... just thought this was interesting because I would have expected the flower from the keiki to be just like that of the mother plant..... so much for what I know!

That's interesting, doc. Can you add a picture of the peloric? The colors are excellent too.

It may bloom peloric next time, Howard. It is odd the way it happens.

This is probably the closest I've seen to orange in Phals. I like it!

Tami, here it is as requested

Bruce, this is the 2nd time this keiki has flowered with the same result. As I have been told, peloric characters in Phalaenopsis are controlled by regulatory genes in the epidermis. Since this keiki didn't carry over the active epidermal genetic material, it shows as a 'normal' flower. OK by me 'cause the normal flower is a deeper yellow/orange color.

Interesting. So it will not bloom peloric then? In any case, peloric or not, it is a beautiful color. I am glad the 'normal' bloom is pleasing to you too. It is nice to have a large variety in color and shapes blooming.

    Cheers,
    BD
