    Default Congratulations,

for blooming a Phalaenopsis x intermedia!
This is a natural hybrid, Phalaenopsis aphrodite X Phalaenopsis equestris.

Very nice colored phal. The equestris gene is evident on the lips color. Congrats.

Despite being a natural hybrid, I have recently elevated this plant to species rank because of its ability to form and sustain populations independent of its parents, which are Phalaenopsis aphrodite and P. equestris. This plant in fact is the first known natural orchid hybrid and the only one known to be self-sustaining. The correct name therefore is now Phalaenopsis intermedia without the 'x' between them.

This is interesting but so far, this is not validated by Kew. .

That's because both Kew and IPNI are slow in updating names. Besides, taxonomy is not a word of God thing: just because the hallowed halls of Kew says so, doesn't mean it's gospel truth. Subjectivity is a trait not easily shed by us. Try to objectively review the facts then formulate your own opinions, run them against existing data and then stick to your guns- that's what good taxonomists do.
