Thank ya'll. I wish I could claim to have reared this plant, but I just recently got it in this amazing condition. I am such a big fan of Brassias.

Margo, this one wasn't bad at all, I paid less than 20 for this one. I am in good with the Floral Director of a couple of super upscale grocery stores that we run some coffee bars within. They order in pretty good bulk every few months.

I only have 6 Brassias, so I am no expert, but they seem to like me alright. (I would certainly have more if they were cheaper and easier to get, as they are my favorite)

Like I said, I am no where near being an expert, but here's how I treat them. They are all windowsill culture. Except for the one I just mounted, I have them all potted in a 80% medium bark chip, 20% perlite mixture. I have them all on pebble trays and water them twice a week, fertilize with 10-10-10 every week at really low strength. Every two weeks or so I fill up my sink and soak them for about 20 minutes in good ol'water--more often if its been really hot and bright. They get about 2-3 hours of direct morning sunlight every day, and then ambiant light from their window the rest. It runs about 80-85 degrees at that window, with a fan always on.

Derek that is a real stunning display. Compared to the size of the plant, it is one big bloom !

Heh! Thanks. :-) Yeah for under 20 I couldn't resist. I try to stay around the 10 dollar mark. (Which means unfortunately I get everything out of spike/bloom. Actually, there was this Grammatophylum scriptum at one of the local nurseries almost as big as my large cymbidium and I just fell in love. But with that size and three 3 foot spikes they wanted 65--No way! Maybe it'll still be there but discounted next time I go back.)

I have a Brassia verrucosa and though I haven't flowered it yet, it seems to be doing just fine so far. It was a gift though, so I can't say much about price.

Definitely needs a higher amount of light though. I basically give it Oncidium-hybrid type conditions.

Ron, giving them direct sunlight was an accident based on my newness to orchid growing over a year ago. They have grown greatly in size, and all seem healthy to me. I know this may seem a bit simplistic, but they only get direct light for about 3 hours, everything after that is shaded--and they seem to be real happy with that amount of light with their prolific growing. I am hesistant to give growing advice though---I don't have the experience of so many of ya'll here.

One of them, an Odontobrassia, got a little stippling during the brightest months--and I thought he was maybe a little hot. I responded by moving him a back away from the window, effectively shading him. In response, he has leaned over even farther out of the pot to get back up against the window and I had to weight the pot down so he wouldnt tip it. He likes the light I guess. :-)

I need to check to see if any of our Brassidiums are in bloom now. I wish we had one like this one.

    Cheers,
    BD
