    Talking New Butterfly

Tag reads Onc. Mendenhall 'Lace' X Onc. Papillio 'Mendenhall' FCC. Stopped into a nursery while out doing some errands and I couldn't resist.
I love the mottled foliage. It has 2 spikes, a new bud behind the open blossom and an emerging bud from the other. Please keep your fingers crossed that I don't kill it.

That's wonderful. What a pretty reflection of the Vanda and the water in the window behind it too!

Nice one, Michael!!! Enjoy it!!! Keep in mind- (from what I know) they don't like too much light, keep it moist all the time, DON'T PLAY WITH THE SPIKES!!! (I broke mine while trying to get good picture of the bud and...... lost not only the bud but also the spike). One more think- they hate repot! At out local society meeting somebody was talking about it and said- if you want to kill it just repot. Oh, and don't cut the spike- it will keep blooming from the same spike (now you know why I was sick when I broke it...)

That's beautiful butterfly. I got one last month, but lost the buds because I re-potted it (The pot was blown down from the shelf). Luckily, new spikes are branching out.

Lovely ! I hope this one will be giving you blooms for a long time to come.

Even repotting doesn't have to be scary; there are good instructions on this site about how to do it. I have a Psychopsis that is hopefully nearing blooming size that I had to repot last year. I followed the instructions I found here about repotting (even though I was skeptical about keeping it unpotted for a month) and it did fine. As you said, one can get good advice here.
