    Unhappy

I really missed them so much...

I have those different kinds of Phalaenopsis equestris except the varieties of Alba, Aurea, Flava, and Peloric. It's sad to say that they are already gone away from my garden, wilted.

I hope I could collect those again...

    Hi PhilsDC,

I never heard spoken of a 'flava' variety, do you have a photograph of such a variety?
    Thanks a lot.

Oh that's so bad to hear. I've seen peloric form a long time ago and hope to be able to find one someday. I noticed that it is very difficult to find the peloric forms nowadays.

I don't have the photos of flava variety. I have seen once in a certain orchid site displays a lot of Philippine native orchids. It is similar to alba but the lip is prominently greenish and it has streaks of green on its petals and sepals.

And as for peloric, they are mutant variety or some kind of abnormal behavior among plants. Most plants with peloric form are their petals look the same as the lip patterns or colors or shapes. Anyway, they are among the rarest of the forms. Of thousand seeds disperse to the canopy of forests, less than .01% are peloric, 98% are prototypes and .1% are albino, and the remaining produces new variety.

They are totally unique in botany and as well for plant collectors.

We have rarest endemic, natural peloric phalaenopsis hybrid, Phalaenopsis x intermedia var. Diezii. I hope I could find this forest treasure later when I travel and visit to Leyte island.

    hi derek,
im glad you mentioned this rare phal. diezii. a lady in leyte told me about this orchid but couldnt remember the correct spelling and here they call it "star of leyte", so i didnt find anything on it.
only now i googled it and saw some pix, looks fantastic!!!

im still on the lookout for this one, but you better ask the locals about the "star of leyte". just be careful, they call cymbidium finlaysonianum " miss leyte-leyte", lol

    cheers for bringing this up!
