Here's a Phal that bloomed out half solid pink and half patterned. There is no tag so I don't know what it is (was).

Wow, that's very interesting. I really like the markings on the 'normal' left half of it. It looks like the bloom to the left is going to turn out normal.

It's beautiful. I've got a few of the hybrids I made that came out this way, and they tend to flower differently every time. Dtps. Ever Spring Prince and Dtps. Minho princess are typical examples

This probably was, (is) Minho Princess last year. This year I guess it's just Minho.

    How curious it is !
What could be the genetic explanation of such a phenomenon ???

The only explanation I've come across is the one below:

According to A. Dean Stock author and cytogeneticist, ‘colour breaks or irregular colour markings, for example each half of the flower is a different colour or has unusual or variable markings’, is explained by a mutation whereby “pigment cells on part of the flower do not ‘turn on’ due to a control gene malfunction during bud formation; or the plant may have two pigment systems, and the dominant pigment is shut off”.
(Referenced from Moth Orchids-The complete guide to growing Phalaenopsis, Steven A. Frowine, 2008 )
