Cool Camera used for orchid pictures

The pictures are just beautiful. What type of camera are you using ? What are the spec's on your camera? I was going to buy a new camera this week.

I use a Nikon DSLR D70, a present from my sons 6 years ago. It's a bit outdated nowadays, having been superseded by more recent models with higher megapixels and many more features. However if you are looking for a new camera the DSLR is the way to go.Any reputable brand should be OK. I use Nikon simply because I have been using the Nikon system lenses for more than 40 years. Yes a macro lens should be very useful.

hi catttan just want to know how do you grow/culture these 'cute' orchids? i have several pots of these, they are growing yet no sign of blooming yet. i have received them (with blooms) several months before, divided some and now they're okay yet failed to bloom.

Hi sui. If you have divided them and they are doing OK then you are on the right track. I think the reason they are not blooming at the moment is that they are still suffering from the trauma of having just been divided. Just give them a bit more time.

    Default Tolumnia

Cattan - I am exceedingly jealous that you can grow them outside year round and only have to mist them twice a day.... It actually getss way too hot here in the summer and too dry off and on all year. I have my misters set to go on 2 timess a day ( 4 minutes and then 2 minutes 3 hours later )- just to cool them off in the afternoon.
Do you find that you go through periods of becoming more selective in your plants? I started giving away and donating my big Cattleyas last year... they take up too much space.

@geoblue: Talk about HOT. Here we have temp between 90 - 100 F for at least 3 months with no rain from Jan to March. The rest of the year we are cool when the temp are in the 75 - 85F range. The annual rainfall averages 100 inches. I always thought Florida has the ideal climate for most orchids. Tolumnias are from the West Indies so should do well in Florida.

Periods of being more selective ? Yes, and I do give away surplus plants but not to the point where I don't keep at least one specimen of it - if for nothing more than sentimental reasons. So how do I cope with the diminishing space in the orchid house - curb the urge to buy more(nigh impossible) or expand the orchid house (which is easier to do; it has been expanded twice already).

Cheers and continue enjoying your orchids.
