Absolutely stunning blossoms! Its nice to know that general inflation and the devaluation of the Dollar has not changed orchid prices, or that same odont seedling could cost $250.00 today!, ( Very rough guess). A overall wonderful post. AL

Wow what a wonderful orchid. I am sure you will be able to coax it to do multiple branchings the next season. Also a very interesting story, I can understand how blessed we are to get orchids so cheap than the older generations. On other notes are any of its parents heat tolerant. I have recently got interested in the oncidium intergenerics (because they are so freely available here in Europe) and do not know much about their adaptibility to heat.

Re old-time catalogues, I agree that in those days the catalogues were not only colourful but educational as well. I still keep a few of them from a nursery in California and the ones I treasure most are the Jones and Scully's ( I think I can mention it as it is no more in business) of Florida.
Anoher firm no longer in business is-was - Everglades. They were responsible for a lot of the way-out intergeneric crosses in the Oncidiniae. I forget the man's name, but I spoke to him once when I was in Florida and hoping to get to visit him ( defeated by the terrible road signposting in USA, as compared to what I am use to back home in UK ). he told me that he was successful in getting seed in about 1% of the crosses he tried, and the ones that were worthwhile out of that was less than 50%. So you never been successful with Wilsonaras etc is no surprise. I've tried a few myself , and one or two were in cultivation for a time, but my success rate no better.
