My Masai Red 'Red Splash' ( or whatever my clone is called) is grown in S/H in my standard conditions - I have just one heated greenhouse growing my cattleyas, vandas, everything else...
I think your plain red is lovely - pity we can't easily swap props....

According to Orchidwiz it was registered in 2007. This doesn't add up. It has been "necessary" to quote both parents names in order to get a registration for at least 50 years, to my knowledge , so something is wrong somewhere.

Since I have my own plant - see the thread (wronlgy) labelled Colmanara Wildcat "Dark Star" - I have e-mailed the Registrar of Orchid Hybrid Names asking for clarification. I'll let you know what he says ( Julian Hunt used to be the Registrar but it is some time since I last had contact , so I may not be up to date here - but my message should get to the Registrar whoever it is now.

Thanks Geoff, let us know what you hear from them. And I think one can easily send plants from UK to continental Europe and vice versa, I have bought a few plants earlier from some nurseries in the UK. If you want I could send you one of these plants, just PM me.

    [QUOT

Here is the reply I had from the Registrar....

    Hello Geoff
This is the note I have in the register under this name.

Red flower with red lip. Also incorrectly as {Colmanara} Masai 'Red'. Very similar to {Odontonia} SAMURAI, red flower, spotted lip. See Letters to Ed., Orch. Rev. Nov. 2007. Both these along with {Colm} . MASSAI SPLASH, orange flower, and {Vuyl.} MAYA, brownish flower with white and purple lip, are cultivar equivalent trade designations (trade names) used by Anthura B.V. for clones selected from other greges.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards

    Julian Shaw
    Orchid Registrar

Reading between the lines, it ( the reason for allowing registration without parentage) is all to do with CITES and the opt-out for import/export without permits for registered hybrids . But it doesn't help us !
